I am really not too sure about colds, but ultrasound is used a lot in many different kinds of healthcare. There is lots of research in how ultrasound can be used to help kill tumours, or to assist surgeons in surgery. Ultrasound can also help with things like breaking down kidney stones (which can apparently be very painful if passed via the ‘usual way’!).

In a slightly different way, music therapy and music in general can be pretty good for people with mental health issues like depression, or anxiety.

I use ultrasound on a daily basis and is a very useful tool. Paul has mentioned some useful ways of how ultrasound can be used. I don’t think we would be able to use ultrasound to help with a cold as it would be very difficult/impossible to target the virus- I would quite like it if it did though as I am suffering a very a nasty cold currently.
There has been some recent research looking at the use of ultrasound for Alzheimer’s disease and how it may help with the uptake of medication. Also they are looking into using ultrasound to help treat tremors.
Physiotherapists can use ultrasound to help with deep muscle injuries and has been shown to speed up the healing process.
When ultrasound is used in these treatment measures a very high frequency is used- much higher than what I used on a daily basis.
