Good question. I don’t think I would want to reinvent anything as we have some pretty cool inventions that we would struggle without. It would be good to invent something completely new though- perhaps something that could tackle climate change?
The car. Or more broadly, transport. Cars are so polluting and inefficient. The world would be so much better if we could scrap the lot and invent a better way of getting people around.
I completely agree with Jen: I’d reinvent transport. I’d go further though: I’d reinvent cities. When we rebuilt a lot of cities after world war 2, we spread them out massively and made them so you could only really get around them in cars. Then we realised how polluting cars were and what a bit mistake we’d made, but we’d already built them by then. I’d like to rebuild cities so everyone lives close to each other, there’s lots of unspoiled countryside outside and there are good public transport links that get people where they want to go, without having to use cars.
