• Question: What is the most gruesome thing your job has required you to do ?

      Usually stuff involving brains. For a course I did, we had to cut up a sheep brain (but I cant really remember why!) And I have been down to brain surgery where we helped a surgeon look for cancer using laser light – that was fascinating but also a little bit gross!

      I think when we have to see patients with arterial disease. People don’t have good enough blood supply getting down to the legs they start to develop nasty ulcers on the skin or their skin starts to go black and die. This can be very very smelly!!!

      I have had to do a radiation survey of a patient’s room and belongings. Grungy undies n all. And pee spray in the bathroom (blokes…) For patient who have been given radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer.
