Mars is very cold and has very little atmosphere. You could live there in spacesuits, but an extra problem of having no atmosphere is that one of the extra functions of Earth’s atmosphere is that it protects us from the high energy ionising radiation that the sun emits along with light. On Mars, without this protective atmosphere, everything would become radioactive quite quickly so the astronauts would probably die of cancer. So life on Mars would be possible, but extremely expensive in the long term and not possible for more than a few years.

I agree with what Greg said, so that’s why people are looking at ways of terraforming Mars. That basically means that you can make a little bit of Mars habitable by (probably, I haven’t looked in to this too much) making a big dome like thing that can keep harmful radiation out and keep heat and air inside so you can grow plants and food. I think that would be very difficult though!

Isn’t there a plan for the future to create a place for humans to live on Mars? it is called Mars one. I was watching a TV programme about what it would be like to live on Mars the other day and it was showing the suits they would have to wear and the food they would eat so perhaps it will be a possibility in the future.

I think it will be planned within my lifetime.
