There is about 3-4g of iron in the body. Two thirds of this is in the blood and most of the rest of the iron is stored in the liver. The brain contains only a small amount of iron so about a few hundred milligrams in total.
These values are from previous research that people have done using chemical techniques on post-mortem brains. So far, I have looked at how different areas of the brain contain more or less iron compared to each other. Ultimately I am working towards calibrating and verifying my measurements to be able to use on living people.
