My department specializes in treating cancer with radiation. The machine that do this (linear accelerators) are always being updated by the companies who make them, who employ scientists and engineers to translate research ideas into a marketable product. I think the most effective way of reducing cancer rates would be to make sure that everyone knows the the healthy choices to make (no smoking, healthy weight, exercise, limited alcohol, good diet) and can recognise the symptoms of cancer so they can go early to their Dr. (and have a higher chance of being cured). Your age and genes also play a role but you can’t do anything about them!
