I am an NHS employee, paid by University Hospital Southampton. So I guess it mostly comes from the taxes that are paid in the UK.

I’m partly funded by a company and partly funded by the government, on something called a “knowledge transfer partnership”.

The type of imaging techniques I research were originally developed at my university, to take images of nuclear fusion reactions. I’m trying to turn these techniques into a cancer imaging product that the company can then build. That means the company put some money in, but because the government want to encourage universities to spread their knowledge around for the good of everyone, they’re putting in some money too.

I am a trainee on the scientific training programme, so my hopsital trust (Royal Cornwall Hopsital) gets paid to take me on as an employee and they also fund my masters which is very good 🙂
